Based in Montreal, Canada, Eastwood specializes in minimalist, straightforward and functional art and design that transforms any home into a feeling.
Drawing inspiration from everything around us, we work with skilled artisans and woodworkers to transform exotic and salvaged wood into diverse and unique furnishings and home decor accessories. With a commitment to preserving the environment and meaningful steps towards sustainability, we draw on our experiences and relationships in Thailand and India to inform our design through production of all our pieces.
Eastwood was founded as a creator of ambience, a company specialized in importing treasures from the Far East. In 2004, the mother company started creating its own signature collections, designing unique pieces using Indian rosewood and mango wood. Soon after, it expanded its supply base to Chiang Mai, Thailand, and to Indonesia.
Every piece of wood is carefully selected as if we were buying it for our own homes. We embrace and celebrate the wood’s imperfections, highlighting the unique qualities of each piece by approaching it as living, changing material. This has become the tenet of our brand. We recommend that our customers “choose their cracks in the wood”. The features that are specific to each piece become a seal of uniqueness. Each piece of wood dictates what it will become by its shape, wood grain, and size. As such, every item is slightly different, even if it belongs to the same collection. Years of experience have resulted in developing design methods that take into account the performance of the different types of wood we use, in order to accommodate the dramatic changes in temperature resulting from importing the wood from a tropical to a Canadian climate.
Our creations are a reflection of the relationship between the East and the West, the old and the new. Some pieces are functional art, and each ambience wecreate is an act of magic, inspired by nature and brought to life through minimalist, straightforward design, making your home not just a space, but a feeling.
