Every piece of wood furniture is an original piece. It’s not exactly like any other piece because all wood is different. Even different pieces from the same tree will have their own unique markings. No matter what you buy in solid wood, it’s a one- of-a-kind piece
What is solid wood?
Solid wood is wood in its raw state which even after cutting and sawing retains its original and natural texture.
Does using solid wood harm the environment?
According to the old myth, solid wood furniture upsets the ecological balance, but in fact, the opposite is true. Unlike furniture that is made of chips and sawdust which is timed and contributes to the “garbage industry”, solid wood furniture retains quality for centuries.
In addition, today it is common to use trees grown in special plantations that were established for the furniture industry. These orchards provide high quality and extremely strong trees that prevent damage to natural forests. There are wood suppliers who own a special license indicating the origin of the wood. With the help of the certificate provided by these suppliers it is possible to make sure that the tree is not felled in natural forests but is growing in special designated plantations .
What are the other sources of solid wood furniture?
Solid wood furniture is often made from the dismantling of ships, fishing boats, warehouses and old houses. Certain types of solid wood constitute a particularly strong raw material, which can be renewed, recycled and made into additional uses for dining areas, bedrooms, cabinets, lighting fixtures and more. Teak, for example, is a strong, hard and greasy raw material that does not absorb water and can be used over and over again. Creating furniture from decomposed wood allows the utilization of existing raw material that does not harm the ecological balance and provides natural wood with an amazing texture, story, character and colors from its previous "incarnations”.
Is it worth painting natural wood?
It all depends on the type of wood. There are trees with a unique texture, which are just a shame to paint. Other trees are especially suitable for the painting process. We love to use wash colours, in order to make a statement ,and highlight the natural texture. Another option is to combine painted and unpainted elements in the furniture, such as painted legs and a top plate with a natural shade and raw texture.
What pieces of wood are commonly used to make furniture?
If in the past the main part used to create furniture was a tree trunk, today, following the environmental awakening, efforts are made to use all parts of the tree - including branches and roots. The use of all parts of the wood allows the creation of unique furniture with maximum utilization of raw material, so that nothing is wasted.
